The Zillow Estimate is a little like your drunk uncle - known to exaggerate and slightly annoying. It's like asking Siri "What is my home worth?" and getting results about help with homework. An algorithm is frustrating - it can't know what is really happening in a community, and it shouldn't be asked to. Most people who want to buy a home start out by searching through Zillow or Trulia, and that's fine. These public websites are a great way to get a feel for what type of home you would like and where you might want to live, but they just aren't reliable. I wish I had a dollar for every time someone asked me about a property that they had seen for sale on Zillow that, turns out, had either sold, was under contract, had been withdrawn or was never for sale in the first place!
